Energy Audit at Tribhuvan International Airport
2014-01-07

As a move towards identifying possible energy efficiency measures at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a pilot energy audit has been commenced at the airport premises from 26 December 2013 with support from Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP). The energy audit is conductedby Energy Audit Experts from GIZ based on the request of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN)/ Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA).
The audit is conducted for optimization of energy requirements and costs at TIA. The audit conducted at both international and domestic terminal within TIA would address energy consuming areas including lighting, drives, air conditioning, load management, to identify cost effective improvement options. It is expected that the audit would bring out a case for adopting latest energy management system (ISO 50001) at TIA, for reporting, benchmarking, sustaining, energy efficient operations in the long run. Furthermore, itt is expected that the recommendations and results of pilot energy audit could pave a way for wider dissemination and suitable replication in other airports in Nepal, functioning under the aegis of CAAN.

TIA, the sole international airport of Nepal is providing regular flight service for connectivity between Nepal and rest of the world since early 1950s with periodic improvements in its infrastructure. The audit is planned to be completed by mid-January 2014.
